Self Defence

Sgt Paul Cale - 2CDO Seminar
Kodomon Karate-Do has had a long history of Self Defence training. Building on many years of Karate Bunkai (Applications), Chief Instructor Sensei Glenn Irvine introduced grappling and throwing elements after 5 years of Yoshinkan Aikido studies in the late 1990’s and the early part of the new millennium. This rounded out several aspects not greatly found in traditional karate.

This was augmented over the next decade with further studies by the Kodomon Senior Instructors in Tactical Krav Maga from the Israeli Special Forces, and Military Combatives from the Australian Defence Force. Drawing on the Chief Instructor’s military experience and connections in the Australian Military, a concerted effort was made to integrate elements from the Military Combatives  program of Warrant Officer Shane Cassidy, and now the capabilities of the Integrated Combat Centre in the Special Forces Training Centre (SFTC) of Australia’s elite 2 Commando Regiment, under Chief CQB Instructor Sergeant Paul Cale.

The tactical defence training now provided in the Kodomon Edge program is a World leading capability, bringing the best skills and knowledge from arguably the best special forces trainers in CQB today.

Real experience, honed in actual combat, helping every day citizens to lead a safe life, minimising threats to themselves and providing the skills and mindset to survive threatening encounters.

Self Defence training is conducted every Saturday morning at 10am for all students 11 years and up. New students wanting to focus on self defence are welcome to start in this class.

The Kodomon Edge program can provide courses and training in the following:

  1. The Kodomon Edge Self Defence Course
  2. Basic Fitness Assessment (BFA) Training & Combat Conditioning
  3. Kodomon Edge Specialist Training:
