At the QKA Executive Meeting held on the 1st of June 2008, Sensei Irvine was appointed as the new State Coaching Director for Queensland. This role is responsible for the Coaching Development Program for all Coaches in the State. A Great Honour for our Chief Instructor!
Sensei Irvine and Ashleigh Hinchy competed at the 2008 Australian Open. Sensei managed 3rd Place in both the Kumite and Kata Divisions, and Ashleigh came 4th in both events as well.
Kodomon Karate has had to expand into a new Dojo near the current Hombu to allow for the significant growth in membership this year. Details of the extra Dojo (Koryukan) are now on the Kodomon website.
Sensei Glenn Irvine won the State Veterans Kumite and placed second in the Kata, while Ashleigh won both the Kata and the Kumite in the 14 years girls Kyu grade events. Ashleigh also placed 3rd in the Black belt Kata event!

Kodomon Karate-Do has been admitted to National Membership of the Australian Karate Federation. The site has been updated to reflect the affiliations.

Fujimoto Sensei and 8 of the Japan IKS Hombu Dojo Students will be visiting in November for a Training Tour to our Hombu Dojo at Wishart
We had 6 children competing in the AAMA 11th Karate Kids Tournament on the 14th August. All performed very well on the day and we won a total of 7 places. Well Done !
We have arranged for the annual Club Photo to be taken on the last night of training - Monday, December 15th. And for a Dojo Tidy-up on the Sunday following (21st). Please try to attend the class on the 15th for the Photo, as we would like to have all students in attendance.
The new Kodokan Dojo will open on Monday January 6th 2003 at the Anglican Church Hall, Corner of Windemere Road and New Haven Street, Alexandra Hills. The new Dojo has a sprung wooden (polished) floor, perfect for training. And gives us the opportunity to expand training to extra nights in the week this year. A Dojo Opening Ceremony and Kagami Biraki (First Night Back) Training Session will be held on the 6th of January at the usual times. We look forward to seeing everyone there on the 6th !!
Congratulations to the children from our Dojo who were successful in the recent State AKF Schools Championships. Several members of the Kodomon Karate-Do Bayside Dojo competed in the Australian Karate Federation (Qld) School Championships, winning for their schools in the Bayside area. Three of the children placed in the Kumite (Sparring) and Kata (Forms) events. Jacob Hinchy from Sheldon College placed second (Silver) in the Boys 9-10 years Kumite, and second (Silver) in the Boys 10-11 years Kata. Jacob Irvine from Capalaba State School won a Silver medal in the Boys Under 9 years Kata, and Lauren Smith from Redlands College won a bronze medal in the Girls 10-11 years Kumite. All up, 5 children from Kodomon Karate-Do competed in the State School Championships, bringing home a medal tally of 3 Silvers and 1 Bronze for local schools in the Bayside area.
